PETITION TO REMOVE CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA

South Africans began an online petition to get Chidimma Onwe Adetshina disqualified from the Miss SA pageant.

The beauty queen was born at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital to a Nigerian father and a South African mother with Mozambican roots.

The 23-year-old beauty queen also trended on Wednesday, 24 July when she removed her Nigerian and Mozambican flags from her TikTok account.

More than three thousand South Africans had signed the petition at the time of publishing this article.

A recent petition calling for the removal of Miss South Africa 2024 finalist, Chidimma Adetshina from the pageant is off the ground and has caused a heated debate online.

This after social media blew up over xenophobic remarks about her nationality.

The 23-year old law student who was born in Soweto, made the Top 16 of the pageant earlier this month and has progressed to the Top 14 stage of the competition.

However, public outcry over her nationality has been growing as she gets closer to the title and crown, and Chidimma has opened up about her nationality, confirming that she was born and raised in South Africa.

Chidimma’s surname caused a frenzy of xenophobic hate on social media, leaving the beauty contestant to question whether representing a country that she didn’t feel support from was worth it.

Earlier this week, Chidimma explained that while her father is Nigerian, and her mother of Mozambican descent, she was born at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and was raised in Pimville, Soweto.

She has since removed the Nigerian and Mozambican flags from her social media profiles.

The divorced mother of 1 has also caused a public divide over her failed marriage and the fact that she’s a single mother and entering the competition.

The petition calls for Chidimma Adetshina to be removed from the Miss SA 2024 contest, citing her participation undermines the integrity of the pageant.

SOUTH AFRICANS RESPOND TO PETITION

@_KB_Mtimande_: “You people will sign any petition, but will never sign any petition of getting rid of these politicians who ruin your livehood daily.”

@justmamoyo: “So this rainbow nation ideology yall like peddling is total bs or it’s allowed when it doesn’t threaten you, when it makes you look good. And it’s the black South Africans who are yapping about this. Yall really pathetic. You have bigger problems you are coddling but no, lets bully Chidi.”

@glu_one: “What is wrong with you xenophobes? She was. Or in South Africa, she was educated in South Africa, she is South African. You should be ashamed of yourselves.”

@vuyokaimi: “If i remember well in democratic country, Mandela once said this country belongs to those who live in it. She can be an African girl but if she has a citizen, she entitled to participate. If we can be consistency about the roots, I believe even me and you are not South Africans.”

@SolanaNFT_lover: “If I was the Miss Universe and Miss World organisations and she got booted out, South Africa would not be invited to those competitions. Because how come Ireland has a black woman, other countries are open to foreigners. South Africa would be banned and that’s coming from a South African.”
