The charges follow a joint media investigation and months of police inquiry into allegations dating back to 1999.

British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been charged with multiple sexual offenses, including rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police announced Friday. Brand, 50, faces one count of rape, one of indecent assault, one of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault involving four women between 1999 and 2005.
“We have today authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Russell Brand with a number of sexual offences,” said Jaswant Narwal of the Crown Prosecution Service. “We carefully reviewed the evidence… and concluded that Russell Brand should be charged with offences including rape, sexual assault and indecent assault.”
Brand, who has denied the allegations, is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court early next month. The investigation began after a 2023 media exposé by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4.
CNN reports attempts to reach Brand’s representatives for comment have not been successful.
