The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended Hashiru Baku, the alleged kingpin behind the murder of Brigadier General Harold Udokwere, the national chairman of the Retired Members of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Udokwere was killed during a robbery at his residence on June 22, with the assailants making away with his gun and other valuables.

Four suspects, Ibrahim Rabiu, Nafiu Jamil, Aliyu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Nuhu, were previously arrested and paraded on June 24 in connection with the crime. During a press briefing, FCT Police Commissioner Benneth Igweh announced the arrest of Baku, an escapee from the Kuje correctional center, who was apprehended in Kano while attempting to flee the country.

The police have recovered Udokwere’s pistol, wristwatch, and his wife’s stolen jewelry. Baku, reportedly an organizer of the robbery, was found in possession of 79 bottles of codeine, which Igweh claimed was used by the suspects to get high.

Additionally, the FCT Police Command apprehended Ibrahim Yakubu, Uguwu Joseph, and Mukhata Abdullahi for armed robbery, recovering two English pistols and ammunition. The police also arrested Saidi Mohammed and Miracle Felix, who confessed to being part of a robbery gang operating in the Wuse II and Mpape areas.

In total, the FCT Police Command arrested eight suspects and recovered various items, including a trailer containing used car parts, armored cables, one pickup truck, two buses, and a red vehicle allegedly used as an operational vehicle by the suspects. The suspects will be charged in court following further investigation.
