NDLEA seizes ₦16.1 billion worth of Opioids in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 25 million pills of tapentadol and 350,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup at the Tincan port complex in Lagos. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of N13,725,000,000, while the codeine consignment is worth N2,450,000,000.

The seizures were made on September 17th and 20th, 2024, from three containers on the watchlist of the Agency. The NDLEA requested a joint examination of the shipments with Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies.

The agency also arrested an 80-year-old grandfather, Pa Aremu Shojobi, with 14 kilograms of cannabis at his home. NDLEA operatives also recovered 226kg of cannabis from Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Talba’s homes and 390kg from a Mitsubishi delivery van. Additionally, a 38-year-old drug mule, Okafor Ifeanyi Anthony, was arrested at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
