Chelsea player ratings: Rudiger the unlikely hero as James has license to roam

Chelsea left it late at Stamford Bridge before eventually securing a 3-2 victory over Leeds.

Jorginho scored twice from the spot, including the winner in the 94th-minute as Thomas Tuchel’s side snatched a much-needed victory.

Edouard Mendy 6

Wrong-footed for Raphinha’s penalty – but still looked slow to react. Flying save denied the same player an earlier goal.

Cesar Azpilicueta 7

Full of energy and threw himself into tackles to keep Leeds at bay. At a time when Tuchel is questioning attitudes, his was spot on.

Thiago Silva 7

Had largely looked in control and handled the pace of James and Roberts well with his intelligent positioning. But he allowed Gelhardt to get ahead of him for Leeds’ late equaliser.

Toni Rudiger 8

Chelsea’s unlikely hero. Won two penalties to save Tuchel the prospect of crisis talk. It was reward for how high he pressed throughout to put Leeds on the back foot.

Reece James 8

Appeared to be given license to roam. Started a wingback, but frequently moved into a central position to give Chelsea more control in midfield.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek 6

Saw a lot of the ball, but his quality let him down from an attacking point of view as he struggled to the passes to open Leeds up often enough.

Jorginho 9

Playing through the pain barrier, he still helped to control the tempo with his use of the ball. So calm to score two penalties and secure a crucial win.
