Chelsea told to complete Thomas Tuchel transfer U-turn with £68m move

FOOTBALL LONDON

Chelsea have been urged to re-sign Tammy Abraham at the end of the season by former striker Chris Sutton. The Cobham graduate was sold to AS Roma by Thomas Tuchel in the summer of 2021 but has been linked with a return to the Premier League.

Abraham was one of Europe’s highest scorers last season with 27 goals to help Jose Mourinho’s side with the UEFA Conference League. However, this term has been more of a struggle with the England international scoring only seven times in 38 games.

The striker was allowed to leave the Stamford Bridge outfit after Romelu Lukaku arrived for a then-club record transfer of £97.5million from Inter Milan. Unfortunately for Chelsea, Lukaku’s move has not gone to plan.

Following the summer arrivals of Paulo Dybala and Andrea Belotti at the Stadio Olimpico, Abraham has been linked with a move away – with a possible return to England on the cards. Previous reports have claimed the Blues retain a strong interest in Abraham and could look to activate the £70.8m buy-back clause that becomes active in the summer.

Graham Potter’s side have lacked a serious threat in the No.9 position this season and Todd Boehly has been urged to hand Abraham a return to west London at the end of the season.

“Tammy Abraham is an out and out No.9 and Chelsea decided to let him go,” Sutton told Betting Sites. “That was a bit of a strange one, but of course they expected Lukaku to come in and have a stormer which he didn’t do.
