Everton suffer fresh financial woes as accounts show huge £45m loss

MIRROR

Everton have reported another huge loss of £45m for the financial year 2021-22, in their annual accounts released on Friday.

And that figure has put them over the limit set by the Premier League for their strict Profit and Sustainability regulations, which allows them a combined loss of £105m over a period of three years. The rules actually stretch over the past four years, with the two Covid-affected seasons combined and averaged out, leaving Everton to record losses of £295m for the period in question.

The club though, will argue that losses directly related to the pandemic have reached around £190m…which would leave them creeping in under the Profit and Sustainability limit.

The Premier League though, appear to have viewed it differently, with the club now charged under those regulations for losses which are deemed too great, even with Covid-adjusted losses.

If found guilty Everton could be hit with a transfer ban, and even be prevented from giving current players new contracts, along with fines and even a points deduction if the breach is deemed serious enough.
