Ajax are very interested in signing Jordan Henderson if the former Liverpool captain gets the green light to leave the Saudi Pro League.

It was reported earlier this week that Henderson wants to leave Al-Ettifaq just six months on from his controversial switch to the Middle East.

The England International is said to be unsettled in Saudi Arabia and unhappy with the heat and humidity of the playing conditions, and will ‘seriously consider’ any offers from Premier League teams.

Furthermore, Al-Ettifaq’s terrible attendance figures – an average of just over 7,000 this season – and the backlash he faced from the LGBTQ+ community because of the move are also said to be contributing factors.

It remains to be seen whether any English top-flight clubs are interested however, and while Newcastle have been tentatively linked, that move seems highly improbable given Henderson’s ties to boyhood club Sunderland.

There are, however, several clubs around Europe that could offer the 33-year-old an escape route, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Dutch giants Ajax are among those ready to make their move.

That will be music to the ears of Henderson but it all depends on whether Al-Ettifaq are willing to let their most high-profile player go, and at the moment they are not.
