Liverpool agree £27.5 million transfer deal for Fabio Carvalho with Brentford

Liverpool have finalized a deal with Brentford worth up to £27.5 million for the transfer of Fabio Carvalho.

The 21-year-old Carvalho joined Liverpool in 2022 from Fulham for £7 million. Although he made a memorable debut by scoring a last-minute winner against Newcastle, the Portugal under-21 international struggled to secure a consistent spot in the first team.

Despite impressing in all four of Liverpool’s pre-season friendlies in the United States, Carvalho is set to move to Brentford before the transfer window closes. The deal includes an initial £22 million plus an additional £5.5 million in add-ons. Liverpool also secured a 17.5 percent sell-on clause for future transactions, ensuring Carvalho remains at Brentford’s G-Tech Community Stadium until 2029.

Fulham will receive around £5 million from the transfer due to a 20 percent sell-on clause in the original agreement.

Last season was challenging for Carvalho. He spent part of it on loan at RB Leipzig, where he only started three games and played 360 minutes. He was then loaned to Hull City, where he scored nine goals in 20 appearances, but the team narrowly missed the playoffs.

Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, had the opportunity to evaluate Carvalho during the pre-season tour. Although Carvalho showed promise and earned a starting spot while senior players were absent, he was not considered central to Slot’s plans for the upcoming season.
