Man City stars confirm what everyone knows about Ederson after Community Shield shootout

Manchester City players Oscar Bobb and Manuel Akanji have praised goalkeeper Ederson as the team’s top penalty taker.

Ederson played a crucial role in City’s Community Shield victory over Manchester United, scoring the decisive fifth penalty in the shootout. He also made a key save from Jadon Sancho, and Jonny Evans’ miss ensured City’s win, marking their first Community Shield triumph in three years.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has previously demonstrated his penalty-taking skills, and his teammates believe he will continue to be called upon in such situations. Both Bobb and Akanji agree that Ederson stands out as City’s best penalty taker.

Bobb remarked to ITV Sport, “I haven’t seen him miss, so probably yeah [Ederson is the best]!” Akanji also acknowledged Erling Haaland, who also scored in the shootout, but emphasized his high regard for Ederson.

“He’s maybe the best penalty taker in our team. Of course, Erling is great as well. I haven’t seen him miss for us. When Ederson takes a penalty, I’m confident it will be a goal. He saved us with one good save today, so I’m really happy for him,” Akanji said to ITV Sport.

He added, “I let the others take their shots first because if you miss your last penalty, it affects your confidence for the next one. I had a good feeling. If I hadn’t taken it or if Eddie had missed before me, it might have gone on longer.”
