United near £51.5m transfer for Bayern’s De Ligt and Mazraoui

Manchester United are nearing a double transfer deal valued at £51.5 million for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

In July, Mirror Football reported that Erik ten Hag was making a strong push to bring Dutch defender De Ligt to Old Trafford. Bayern Munich have now accepted United’s £38.6 million bid for the 24-year-old center-back.

Ten Hag will also reunite with Mazraoui after Bayern agreed to sell him to United for £12.9 million. This will push United’s summer spending beyond £140 million, following the signings of Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee.

Since arriving at the club two summers ago, Ten Hag has now spent over £500 million. Despite United’s disappointing eighth-place finish last season, their worst in Premier League history, the club has supported Ten Hag in the transfer market, opting to extend his contract until 2026.

Ten Hag previously managed both De Ligt and Mazraoui at Ajax, where they won consecutive titles and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

De Ligt joined Bayern after a stint at Juventus, winning titles in both Serie A and the Bundesliga. Bayern fans were so dismayed by the prospect of De Ligt leaving for Manchester that a petition to keep him in Munich garnered over 20,000 signatures.

Mazraoui, who was born in the Netherlands but represents Morocco internationally, faced controversy last October for sharing a pro-Palestine video on social media. He later apologized, condemning terrorism, hatred, and violence.

Mazraoui’s move is reportedly dependent on United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka transferring to West Ham for £15 million. Wan-Bissaka is currently negotiating his contract with West Ham, with a medical scheduled for Sunday or Monday.
