Squid Game creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that the Netflix TV series would be back for a highly-demanded second season.
Dong-hyuk revealed this in an interview at an event for the series. He also hinted a major plot twist for the second season.
The Insider reports that Dong-hyuk hinted a significant plot twist for the second season, revealing that one of the show’s major characters, Gi-hun, would be back to do “something for the world.”
Highlighting the series’ global success, the director noted that this had left the team no other choice than to create a second season, even though most South Korean series end at just a season.
“I almost feel like you leave us no choice,” he said.
The creator added, “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season.”
He also revealed that planning for the second season was already in the works. “It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this, Gi-hun will be back, and he’ll do something for the world…
