On Tuesday, the suspended Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume bowed to pressure as he tendered a public apology to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for embarrassing comments about President Bola Tinubu during a live television program.
Ndume who is representing Borno South Senatorial District withdrew his statement after a 2-hour closed-door meeting with members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) of the party held at its secretariat in Abuja.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Ndume said, “My issue was not to have communicated my grievance with the party and I have apologized to the national chairman today. He is my father, so, he can’t deny me.”
Also, he seized the opportunity to clear the air on his purported expulsion from the party, stating APC remains his house and can’t leave to the opposition.
“The party never expelled me. They only say, if I wasn’t pleased, I should leave. But where will I leave to, PDP? God forbid, APC is my house. I have nowhere to go!
“I don’t have any issues with the president. He, Asiwaju is my leader and my boss. Likewise the Senate, I don’t have any issues with the Senate,” Ndume insisted.
In his reaction, the National Chairman of the Party, Umar Ganduje, confirmed that Ndume had apologized and expressed regret over the incident.
Ganduje also mentioned that the party plans to write to the Senate leadership to reconsider its stance on Ndume’s removal as Chief Whip, with the aim of reinstating him.
The New Telegraph had earlier reported the replacement of Ndume as the Chief Whip of the Senate with Senator Tahir Monguno, who represents Borno North over his anti-Tinubu comments a month ago.
