Kogi PDP seeks Dino Melaye’s suspension, labels Senator a ‘liability’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has taken a firm stance against Senator Dino Melaye, branding him a liability to the party. Led by Ibrahim Dansofo, the party elders have urged the local executive committee in Ijumu to begin suspension proceedings against Melaye to safeguard the party’s integrity and focus on effective leadership.

Melaye recently criticized the acting national chairman of the PDP, Iliya Damagum, alongside Samuel Anyanwu and Umar Bature, accusing them of irreparably damaging the party. In response, the PDP elders in Kogi condemned his remarks, asserting that Melaye’s political ambitions have deteriorated to the extent that he can no longer secure even a local councillor position.

Dansofo and the elders further accused Melaye of hypocrisy, noting that despite his past criticisms, he was still granted a governorship ticket by the party, even though he allegedly lacked the capacity to win a primary election. They claim that his nomination has been detrimental to the PDP’s fortunes in Kogi State, contributing to the party’s current struggles.

The elders have called on key figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reconsider their support for Melaye, urging them to distance themselves from someone they describe as a “big-time liability” and a “bondage” for the party. They also urged the public to disregard Melaye’s recent statements, characterizing them as desperate attempts by a politician whose influence has waned.
