Humankind is at risk of being wiped out by a giant asteroid hurtling towards earth – even if we detect it 14 years in advance.
The warning comes from boffins at NASA and the US Government amid worries disaster plans for asteroid catastrophes ‘are not defined’.
There’s also ‘limited readiness’ to roll out space missions that could reduce the dangers of an asteroid like the action seen in the 1998 hit flick Armageddon starring Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck.
In the blockbuster film NASA sends a group of drillers to blow up an Earth-bound asteroid and save humanity.
The report has been written as part of the fifth ‘Planetary Defense Interagency Tabletop Exercise’, a practice event held by NASA and the US government.
