The City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Lagos will not have any official involvement in the funeral service of the late Herbert Wigwe, former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc.
Wigwe, who tragically passed away aboard a helicopter in the US several weeks ago, was a respected member of the Parish.
The late banker, along with his wife, Chizoba; son, Chizi; and former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, lost their lives in the same incident.
Following his demise, Dr. Siju Iluyomade, wife of the Parish Pastor, hosted a lavish birthday celebration that drew criticism.
Despite the tragic loss of prominent church members, the celebration took place at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos, with notable personalities in attendance.
Some individuals initially dismissed social media comments as distractions, but the recent release of the family’s program of events has stirred further discussion. Unlike the customary practice of incorporating places where deceased individuals worshipped into funeral proceedings, the parish was notably absent from the itinerary.
According to the program, the funeral arrangements for the Wigwe family will commence with a tribute to Herbert Wigwe’s professional legacy at the Eko Hotel in Lagos on March 4th. Separate ceremonies honoring Chizi and Chizoba are scheduled for March 5th at the same venue, followed by a night of tributes on March 6th.
On March 7th, a combined service of songs will be held at the RCCG Resurrection Parish in Lekki, followed by a Christian wake-keeping at Wigwe
