CPL A.I. Garba, an airman with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) detained over his TikTok videos, has been hospitalised because of a yet-to-be-known ailment, SaharaReporters has gathered.

Garba before his arrest was well-known on TikTok for comparing the best practices of military personnel in the United States with the situation in Africa.

SaharaReporters had reported how he was detained over some of the videos which the military believed were targeted at exposing some irregularities within the institution.

Confirming his arrest, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet had said the soldier was in custody for violating some provisions of the Armed Forces Act.

“Let me, however, state that the NAF and indeed the military as a whole are guided by set rules and regulations,” he told SaharaReporters.

“Any personnel who violates these rules and regulations or falls short of its expectations knows the consequences. Indiscipline in whatever form will not be tolerated.”

Speaking to SaharaReporters during the weekend, a military source said the soldier had been moved from an underground cell where he was kept to the military hospital inside Abacha Barracks in Abuja.

One of his family members who spoke to the newspaper, however, said they were denied access to him.

“We were not granted access to him but we are aware that he is medically unfit to be in detention because of his health record. As I’m talking to you, his first daughter is very sick as well,” he said.
