National grid failure: Widespread blackouts sweep across the country

NIGERIAN TRIBUNE

Nigeria’s national grid has collapsed for the third time in one week, causing widespread power outages across the country.

This latest collapse occurred on Saturday at 8:16 am, with power generation dropping to zero.

The grid had previously tripped off on Monday and Tuesday while it was being restored.

The national grid is a complex network that includes generating plants, transmission systems, and distribution companies. A collapse occurs when the entire power transmission system experiences a failure, often due to technical faults, insufficient generation, transmission challenges, or overloading of the grid.

Before the collapse, power generation was 3,042 megawatts at 8 am and had peaked at 3,968MW at 7 am.
