Gun-toting grandmother, 74, pictured robbing bank after ‘losing all her money in scam’

A gun-toting gran robbed a bank after she “lost all her money in an online scam”.

Ann Mayers resorted to desperate measures to help pay off her debts to friends and family, after she was the victim of cyber criminals. As well as being scammed out of her cash, the 74-year-old was loaned $5,000 (£4k) by her sister and $65,000 (£52k) by a friend, according to police.

Despite having no previous history of crime, Mayers decided to dip her toe in by robbing an Ohio bank at gunpoint on April 19. Police say Mayers’ heist saw her making off with $500, before they caught up with her.

Cops didn’t take too long to find their suspect, and as soon as they did Mayers came clean.

She immediately told the arresting officers: “I did whatever you’re here for.”

The septuagenarian allegedly told investigators with the Fairfield Township Police Department (FTPD) that she was the person who walked into the AurGroup Financial Credit Union Bank.
