Bolsonaro has been accused of embezzling luxury jewelry worth $1.2 million during his time in office, according to a police report unsealed by the Supreme Court.
The investigation alleges that Bolsonaro was part of a criminal association that embezzled high-value gifts, including diamond-encrusted watches and other jewelry, and laundered assets to hide the origin of the funds.
The report reveals that some of the jewelry was received by government staffers on Bolsonaro’s behalf during international trips and that his family received revenue from the illegal sale of the jewelry.
This indictment is one of several investigations into Bolsonaro’s actions, including falsifying his COVID-19 vaccination certificate and possible involvement in inciting a January 2023 uprising in Brasilia.
