Coca Cola drags Pop Cola to court over trademark 'theft'

Daily Nigerian

The Coca-Cola Company has dragged Mamuda Beverages Nigeria limited, the manufacturers of Pop-Cola, to Federal High Court, Kano over trademark theft.

Pop-Cola was launched in June this year amid pomp and fanfare, with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje appearing as chief promoter of the drink.

A copy of motion exparte obtained by KANO FOCUS, a Kano-based online publication, shows that the coca-cola is accusing Mamuda Beverages companies of using a ‘RIBBON device’ trademark that is near identical to it’s ‘dynamic ribbon device’ trade marks as well as depicting it’s Pop cola product in a script that mimics and causing the mark to be confusingly similar to Coca-Cola trademark.
