Veteran who beat cancer three times left with horror injuries by thug burglars

A former squaddie who beat cancer three separate times has been left brutally beaten in his own home by thugs.

James Clune, a 75-year-old from Aberdeen, was ambushed in his own home after returning from a night at the bingo when two men forced their way into the flat.

The pensioner has since suffered a broken nose, stab wound to the leg and fractured cheekbone and was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police are still on the hunt for one man involved in the incident, while the second perpetrator appeared in court in connection with the attack that left the pensioner bloodied and bruised.

The disgusting attack occurred just a short while after James, who has battled tongue, mouth and throat cancer for more than a decade, returned from a five-day period in hospital.

His brother Stephen Clunes, 61, recalled that the former Scots Guard colour sergeant of 30 years experience was terrified to return to his home and spoke of the mental and physical impact the incident had left on him.

Stephen said: “James is very sore and extremely bruised. Emotionally, he’s in a difficult place. He is putting a brave face on and playing it down, but I know my brother and he’ll take a big hit from this.”
