A group under the aegis of Nigerian Patriotic Forum (NPF) has expressed concern over plans by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission  ( EFCC ) to rearrest the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

The group disclosed this on Thursday in a statement issued by the President, Samuel Lawson Ajibade in Abuja.

The forum noted that judiciary serves as the beacon of hope for every Nigerian, regardless of their social status or influence and any attempt to do anything to undermine it would erode the key democratic principles of the country.

Ajibade called on the anti graft agency to respect judiciary and must not be used as a tool for witch hunt or political vendetta

The statement read ”  The Nigerian Patriotic Forum (NPF) is deeply disturbed by recent reports indicating that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has allegedly received authorization from the President to disregard a court order granting bail to Mr. Emefiele after spending 151 days in detention.

” If these reports are indeed accurate, it raise serious concerns about the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the potential erosion of key democratic principles. Our nation has made significant progress in upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of its citizens. However, any actions that undermine the independence of the judiciary and disregard court orders pose a direct threat to our democracy.

” The judiciary serves as the beacon of hope for every Nigerian, regardless of their social status or influence. It is imperative that the judiciary remains steadfast in asserting its authority as the last bastion of defense for the common man. The court order that granted bail to Mr. Emefiele was issued after careful consideration of the evidence provided and must be respected.
