Government warns of border opening if cement manufacturers resist price reduction

The Nigerian government, through Minister Ahmed Dangiwa, threatens to open borders to lower cement prices, citing local sourcing of key components and unjustified price hikes. 

Dangiwa urges manufacturers to be patriotic, citing BUA Cement’s readiness to lower prices. He criticizes excuses of high gas and mining equipment costs, emphasizing government efforts to support local production. 

Dangote Cement’s Rabiu Umar blames high gas costs and equipment imports for price hikes, highlighting border issues. The government plans to form a committee with cement manufacturers to address pricing concerns.
