Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), delivered a resolute message on Tuesday, emphasizing the Nigerian Army’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the country’s democracy.

Speaking at a seminar on career planning and management organized by the Army Headquarters in Abuja, General Lagbaja underscored the Army’s steadfast commitment to preserving democracy in Nigeria. He reassured participants that there are no intentions within the Army to undermine democratic principles.

Addressing officers directly, General Lagbaja charged them with maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in the execution of their duties. He emphasized the Army’s role as guardians of democracy and urged personnel to adhere strictly to their constitutional responsibilities.

“The Nigerian Army fully embraces democracy as the preferred system of governance,” stated the COAS. “We stand as agents of democracy and have no intentions to disrupt it. Our duty is to defend the constitution, ensuring that democracy thrives.”

General Lagbaja concluded by emphasizing the need for elected leaders to lead while the military fulfills its constitutional mandate. He urged Nigerian Army personnel to uphold professionalism and integrity in discharging their duties, reinforcing the Army’s commitment to protecting democracy in the nation.
