The man clarified that his intention was not to kill the monkey deliberately. Instead, he had set a trap in the bush with the aim of catching other bush animals for culinary purposes. In his plea for mercy, he begged, “I know I have committed [a crime], please do not kill me, but you can take me anywhere you want.” Upon interrogation, the local community members empathized with him, opting not to execute him. However, they emphasized the need to appease the land’s deity to prevent any potential repercussions from his actions.
