The federal government on Thursday explained the rationale behind the one year mandatory training requirements for HND holders
The Federal Government has explained that HND holders must undergo a one-year mandatory training before conversion to Officer cadre in the civil service due to differences in curricula between HND and B.Sc degrees.
The Head of Service, Folashade Yemi-Esan, stated that the training is necessary to bridge the gap between the two qualifications.
A bill passed in 2021 by the Senate and House of Representatives aimed to end the dichotomy between HND and B.Sc degrees, but it was not signed into law by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The bill had sought to establish equality between HND and B.Sc degrees for employment and career progression purposes, and render inconsistent provisions in other laws null and void.
