At the North West Peace and Security Summit, Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima made a call to the Sokoto State government to be vigilant in protecting the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
Referring to the Sultan as an idea and an institution, he emphasized the need for all Nigerians to guard, preserve, and promote the Sultan’s role in national development. This urgent plea was given in response to concerns raised by the Muslim Rights Council (MURIC) that a plot to depose the Sultan was underway.
