FG clarifies Samoa Agreement, says it didn’t endorse LGBTQ rights

The Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, has clarified that the Samoa agreement was signed in the best interest of the country after extensive reviews and consultations.

The agreement aims to generate investment opportunities and foster collaboration among Nigeria and other nations, and does not contravene any law in Nigeria, including the existing legislation against same-sex relationships enacted in 2014.

The government has assured that it did not endorse LGBTQ rights, which are illegal in the country, and that any provision inconsistent with Nigerian laws shall be invalid.

The Samoa Agreement is a legal framework for cooperation between the OACPS and the European Union, aimed at promoting sustainable development, combating climate change, and generating investment opportunities.
