Varsities boil again as FG, ASUU meet, workers protest Tuesday

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will meet with the Federal Government on July 25, 2024, to discuss their unmet demands, including the full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2009.

Non-academic staff unions, including SSANU and NASU, will hold a one-day protest on Tuesday and a nationwide protest on July 18 over their withheld four-month salaries, despite several meetings with government officials.

The protests come after the government failed to fulfill promises made to the unions, including the payment of withheld salaries and the implementation of the University Transparency and Accountability Solutions (UTAS) in place of IPPIS.

The unions are demanding the immediate payment of their withheld salaries and the resolution of other pending grievances, threatening a full-scale strike if their demands are not met.
