Stop admission of underaged persons – JAMB warns universities

Prof Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of JAMB, has warned universities to stop admitting underaged persons, describing the practice as “illegal”.

Oloyede emphasized the need for accountability, data protection, and integrity in the education system, citing an example of a 15-year-old student who applied for a postgraduate course.

The JAMB Registrar also expressed concern over illegal admissions of diploma students, stating that 9,000 diploma students were admitted last year, with 3,000 coming from a single university.

The conference highlighted the need for effective university governance, with stakeholders urging state-owned universities to improve their standards and quality to compete with federal and private universities.
