Brooklyn family under fire for displaying Taliban flag

NEW YORK POST

A Muslim family in Brooklyn faced backlash this week for raising a Taliban flag outside their home, prompting its removal after criticism from a local politician and inquiries by The Post. Councilwoman Inna Vernikov (R-Brooklyn) posted a video on Tuesday from outside the Brighton Beach residence, condemning the display of what has been Afghanistan’s flag since the Taliban took control in 2021.

In the video, Vernikov accused the family of supporting terrorism, noting the presence of a Palestinian flag below the Taliban banner. A 28-year-old resident later explained that his family was unaware of the flag’s association with the Taliban and had displayed it as a symbol of their faith. He emphasized that they were average New Yorkers with no ties to any terrorist organization.
