The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed concerns over the recent fuel price hike, arguing that it has effectively canceled out the benefits of the new minimum wage. NLC President Joe Ajaero highlighted the severe impact on workers’ purchasing power and criticized the government’s failure to revamp refineries, which could have reduced reliance on imported fuel and stabilized prices.
He also accused authorities of undermining local fuel production efforts, particularly targeting the Dangote refinery project. Ajaero emphasized that the focus should be on ensuring the new wage law improves workers’ daily lives.
