football fan dad bravely saved his young son from a burning supporters bus and has been awarded a £15,000 after being trapped inside the blazing inferno.

Chris Mitchell, a devoted St Johnstone fan, had been one of 70 fans being transported on a packed Rennies bus, owned by Stagecoach Group, heading to the League Cup semi-final at Hampden on the evening of November 20, 2021. But, as they drove along the A9, thick smoke began billowing out the vehicle before it was entirely consumed in flames.

Chris was forced into action, to save his son, Lewis, then 12, and himself, but suffered a broken right heel after he leapt to safety from the burning bus. The horrifying event has left the 44 year old Perth resident diagnosed with PTSD.

Chris recalled the shocking ordeal, he said: “We were sat in the second back row of the bus which was full of young kids. There was a weird smell on the bus even before we left Perth but nobody thought much of it. When we reached Auchterarder on the way home the driver pulled over – then the back of the bus burst into flames. The flames came up the back of the window and then everybody was panicking.
