Tinubu nominates Ruby Onwudiwe to replace Kalu Eke on CBN board from South-East region

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the nomination of Dr. Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the Senate for confirmation.

In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpiabio, read during plenary on Wednesday in Abuja, Tinubu cited compliance with Section 10 (1) of the CBN Establishment Act 2007 as the basis for the nomination.

“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the senate, the appointment of Dr. Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the CBN board of directors,” Tinubu stated in the letter.

He explained that Onwudiwe’s nomination is to replace Mr. Kalu Eke, who is unavailable for the position.

Tinubu expressed hope that the senate would consider and confirm Onwudiwe’s appointment expeditiously.

This nomination comes after Tinubu previously requested the confirmation of five individuals as directors of the CBN board. The confirmed directors include Robert O. Agbide, Ado Yakubu Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu.

The senate had recently confirmed four members of the CBN board, with one nominee from the south-eastern region declining the offer due to a conflict of interest.
