Commissioner: 19 students released, four undergoing treatment after Nasarawa stampede

Nineteen students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, who sustained injuries in a stampede last Friday, have been discharged from the hospital. Tragically, two students lost their lives in the incident, while four others are still undergoing treatment, as confirmed by the state government.

Margaret Elayo, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, conveyed this information to Channels Television via text on Sunday, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased students, Grace Danladi and Rose Micheal, both from Nasarawa State’s western zone.

The commissioner visited Mararaba Edege in Nasarawa local government area and Kubang village in the Panda Development Area of Karu local government area on Saturday to console the bereaved families. However, she did not specify whether the state government plans to compensate the families of the deceased students.

The husband of late Rose Micheal shared his grief, revealing that they had been married for less than a year. He expressed devastation over the loss of his wife but accepted it as the will of God.

Aminu Enupe, the district head of Edege, expressed gratitude for the government’s concern and urged better management of similar processes in the future. He acknowledged the governor’s efforts in reaching out to the affected students and community members, emphasizing the need to learn from the tragic event.

“We give God the glory; whatever must happen, must happen. No matter what you do, what will happen, will happen. And it has happened, and there is nothing we can do about it. We only pray that we learn from whatever has happened,” Enupe remarked.
