Kano govt reinterprets court ruling, says Sanusi remains emir, orders demolition of Bayero’s palace

PREMIUM TIMES reported how the court nullified the Kano Emirate Council (Amendment No. 2) Law, 2024, that scrapped four of the five emirates councils of the state.

The Kano State Government has ordered the removal of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero from the Nasarawa mini palace, following a Federal High Court judgement that nullified the Kano Emirate Council amendment law.

The court ruling reinstated Emir Lamido Sanusi, with the judge describing the government’s actions as a “road to anarchy” and voiding all actions taken after the court order.

Despite the ruling, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice claims the judgement is in their favour and Emir Sanusi remains the emir.

The government has announced plans for the reconstruction and renovation of the Nasarawa palace, including the demolition and reconstruction of the dilapidated wall fence, to begin immediately.
