The Nigerian telecommunications sector has been under scrutiny, with latest data revealing that less than half of the licensed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are actually operational in the country. Out of 252 ISPs, only 106 are active, catering to 262,206 customers.
This is a relatively small fraction of the 163.8 million internet subscribers that the four major mobile network operators service. Experts in the field have attributed this inactivity to various challenges, including security concerns, high costs of operation, and regulatory issues.
