Court orders Emefiele to forfeit $1.42m corrupt proceeds

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of $1.426 million linked to former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele.

The forfeiture was a result of an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The funds were traced to the proceeds of unlawful activities by Emefiele and his associates.

This follows Emefiele’s suspension in June 2023 amid corruption allegations and comes after an interim order temporarily forfeiting the money on May 29.
