Governors assure better minimum wage amid ongoing negotiations

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has assured Nigerians and organized labor that ongoing negotiations will result in a better minimum wage.

The governors had previously rejected the Federal Government’s proposal of N62,000, citing that some states would need to borrow to pay salaries, while organized labor demands a wage of N250,000.

The NGF emergency meeting followed the Federal Executive Council’s postponement of the minimum wage discussion to allow President Bola Tinubu to conduct broader consultations.

The governors also discussed the World Bank-Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up and pledged support for its implementation at the state level, emphasizing its importance for gender equality and social development.
