Dangote refinery not licensed to operate in Nigeria, says NMDPRA

NMDPRA has said that the Nigerian government was yet to license the Dangote refinery to begin operations in the country.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has revealed that the Dangote refinery has not been licensed to begin operations in Nigeria.

According to NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed, the refinery is still in the pre-commissioning stage and has not been licensed yet, contrary to claims that it is ready to start operations.

Ahmed expressed concerns that Dangote’s request to suspend importation of petroleum products and direct all marketers to the refinery would promote monopoly in the market and compromise energy security.

The NMDPRA CEO also highlighted quality issues with the refinery’s products, stating that the sulfur content is much higher than the imported commodities, making it inferior in terms of quality.
