Street parking policy: No going back on enforcement — Lagos govt

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the On-Street Parking Scheme within designated areas of the metropolis starting from October 2024. Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu previously approved the introduction of regulated on-street parking to manage parking resources and improve traffic flow.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that there will be no leniency in enforcing the scheme, emphasizing its importance for the general public. He mentioned that the measure is crucial in ensuring free-flowing traffic in the state.

The General Manager of Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Adebisi Adelabu, explained that enforcement will begin in phases across Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Surelere, Ikeja, and Lekki. Adelabu assured that key stakeholders, including religious associations, night clubs, and event centers, have been informed about the upcoming changes to allow them to prepare accordingly.

The state government has emphasized that effective parking management is necessary for a city of over 25 million people with more than 3 million vehicles. Through public sensitization and stakeholder engagement, Lagos State aims to introduce the scheme responsibly and promote better urban mobility for its residents.
