N50,000 monthly stipend for 10,000 youths as Tinubu addresses economic challenges

President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned a monthly stipend of N50,000 for 10,000 youths in the Niger Delta to mitigate current economic difficulties.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio revealed this during the Niger Delta Sensitisation Conference for ethnic nationalities, youths, and women in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

The stipends will be distributed through the NDDC Youth Intensive Scheme and will initially span 12 months, with a possibility of extension.

Akpabio emphasized that this initiative is part of Tinubu’s efforts to tackle challenges in the region and discouraged participation in the national protest scheduled for August 1.

Additionally, Sen. Akpabio announced that Tinubu has approved the simultaneous start of the Lagos to Calabar coastal highway project from both states, a development anticipated to generate thousands of jobs for the region’s youth.

He stated that the forthcoming national protest is organized by anonymous parties aiming to incite chaos and destruction nationwide.

“The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) will immediately implement this scheme to support 10,000 youths with a monthly N50,000 to alleviate current hardships,” Akpabio said.

“We recognize the severe impacts caused by oil and gas activities in the Niger Delta and are taking swift action to address these issues. President Tinubu is aware of the economic challenges our nation faces and is taking necessary steps to address them,” he added.
