DSS arrests ex-BBC editor, Adejuwon Soyinka at Lagos airport

Adejuwon Soyinka, the Regional Editor for West Africa at The Conversation Africa and founding Editor of the BBC Pidgin Service, was allegedly arrested by Department of State Security (DSS) officers in Lagos.

Soyinka was reportedly detained at Murtala Muhammed International Airport around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, shortly after arriving in Nigeria on a Virgin Atlantic flight from the UK.

Efforts to reach Soyinka have been unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his phone remain unanswered.

A close friend of Soyinka, who requested anonymity, shared a report with journalists, stating, “Adejuwon Soyinka was detained by officers of the Department of State Security at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.”
