Government closes major Lagos market

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), or KAI, has closed the Idera Market in Oshodi, Lagos State, due to alleged environmental violations. The closure was enforced by the Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Cole, who cited unsanitary conditions, improper waste disposal, and garbage presence as the reasons for the closure.

He emphasized the need for hygienic practices to prevent disease spread and cited the market leadership’s failure to provide a valid waste collection contract as the main cause of refuse heaps. KAI agents are monitoring market conditions closely.
