Lucy Letby: Nurse 'told police she found it hard when alleged baby victim lived for several hours'

Murder-accused nurse Lucy Letby told police she found it ‘quite hard’ when one of her alleged victims lived for several hours after he collapsed, a court has heard.

The newborn, known as Baby C, is one of seven babies allegedly killed by 32-year-old neonatal nurse just days after his premature birth at Countess of Chester Hospital in 2015.

The infant, weighing just 800grams, is said to have collapsed after air was injected into the boy’s stomach via nasogastric tube. Letby denies the allegation.

Nick Johnson KC, prosecuting, read out a summary of two interviews the alleged killer gave to police about Baby C’s death on June 14, 2015.

In the first interview, conducted on July 4, 2018, the nurse agreed that she had gone into the family room during the time the couple were holding their infant son. 

Despite having ‘some interaction’ with the parents, she claimed to have no recollection of making comments suggesting they ‘say their goodbyes’ to the infant, who was still alive.
