Poverty: Nigerian government heaps blames on governors 

The federal government said Wednesday that the actions and inactions of governors of the 36 states of the federation fuel poverty in the country.

Fielding questions from State House at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, Minister of State for Finance, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clement Agba, 72% of poverty in Nigeria is found in the rural areas abandoned by the governors.

He said instead of initiating policies and programmes to reduce poverty in rural areas, governors often prioritise construction of flyovers and airports in urban areas.
