The Princess of Wales tonight shared a rare image of Queen Elizabeth as a young girl preparing for a Christmas panto, revealing her own children inherited Her Majesty’s love of ‘putting on little shows’.

In the black and white picture, the then-Princess stood alongside Princess Margaret and another girl and Royal School head Hubert Tannar, all preparing for a Christmas pantomime of Aladdin.

The performance took place during World War Two, meaning the late Queen was still a teenager in the happy picture.

Kate said during the broadcast of her Christmas Eve carol service: ‘It really resonated with me seeing Her Majesty here doing the production on Christmas Day during the Second World War, which I thought was really special.

‘I can remember doing this sort of thing as a little girl too.

‘When I saw this photograph, it’s wonderful now, I see my children’s love for doing this sort of thing, putting on little shows for us.’

The Princess of Wales said often her own children will ask her to watch them perform and eventually invite her to ‘join in’. She said they will often dance around the table as a family.
