Tesco ‘could be breaking the law’ over food and drink Clubcard deals

Tesco has been reported to the competition watchdog over claims it is failing to properly display prices and could be ‘misleading’ customers.

A lack of clear pricing on the majority of Clubcard food and drink promotions could mean it is breaking the law, according to consumer site Which?.

The issue relates to the display of unit prices on these offers, which is when the price of a product is identified in terms of a standard price per weight, for example pence per kilo or 100g.

Which? argues that failing to include unit pricing on Clubcard offers can make it difficult for shoppers to find the cheapest option and could be a ‘misleading practice’ under the Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (CPRs).

It says the information is particularly important during the cost of living crisis, when finding the best value products is crucial for millions of struggling families.
