UNGA: Tinubu, Ramaphosa meet on Nigeria-South Africa economic, regional cooperation

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu and South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss stronger economic and regional ties.

According to a statement issued Monday by presidential media aide Ajuri Ngelale, Mr Tinubu engaged in extensive bilateral discussion with Mr Ramaphosa to further his economic development diplomacy.

Mr Tinubu said Africa must have a consensus on billions of dollars spent through international development finance institutions over the years. He said the funds must meet the specific needs of developing democracies in Africa, even if it is done with exclusive regard for their enlightened self-interest.

“We have all the human and natural resources required between our nations. We can collaborate in a mutually beneficial way that enriches our populations. South African Mining industries have a role to play in the Nigerian solid minerals development sector,” Mr Tinubu told the South African president.
